Hi, I’m Beth. I live in Oxford, UK. I’m 26 and have two young girls who are at the centre of my world.
I have two passions in life, besides my children – craft, particularly sewing, and writing. So, I have decided to put the two together and take time out from my darling daughters to write about my successes (and fails…) in the exciting world of sewing.
I don’t think anyone is ever an expert at sewing; we are all still learning. I now teach sewing to adults – but believe there’s always so much more to learn, which is what I love about bloggers, Pinterest, vloggers… I’m here to join the wonderful online sewing community to share projects, techniques and tutorials.
I am a keen refashioner, so I like to write tutorials on upcycling clothing etc.
I’m also beginning to write tutorials for Simple Sew Patterns – watch this space!
And that is pretty much me. I’m just your normal, average person, looking to create lovely things with pretty patterns and polka dots.
Why ‘After Dark Sewing’?
I’m aware that it doesn’t really make sense but at the time I felt it rolled off the tongue quite well.
Having two fairly demanding children, I find it difficult to sew in their presence. I either make silly mistakes, or get frustrated because I can’t spread myself around as much as I’d like to; pins and scissors lying around the floor doesn’t mix well with toddlers. Therefore I do the majority of my sewing after their bedtime – “after dark”!
This blog helps me document my ideas, tips, techniques, and projects – and I hope it helps some of you, too, as I write a few tutorials and reviews. I hope you learn something – and laugh with me as I travel on my little sewing journey.
Sorry I don’t know where the link went

Hi Beth just wondered how did you add the list of blogs you follow? I’d love to add some to my page including yours of course 🙂

Aw 🙂 Well I didn’t choose the blogs on there, it makes the list randomly. But how you do it is on the widgets section (under appearance), choose ‘Blogs I Follow’. Drag it over to the right hand side where you have your list of widgets! Hope that helps! 🙂

Just found your blog via NavyBluethreads and can empathise with ‘after dark’ being ‘me’ (AKA craft) time!

Haha, I cannot wait until their bedtime. My love for sewing has made me very selfish, it’s terrible!!

Ha, I’ve only just seen your reply. I’m exactly the same. Find myself wishing the time away for nap times or bedtime so I can get on. Awful!

Hi Beth, Thank you for your kind words on my blog! You seem to be doing some really beautiful stitching- I can’t believe you fit it all in around your toddlers! I’m quite new to all this blogging malarkey and it seems you are too so maybe we can help each other and keep in touch x

Hiya thanks a lot 🙂 it’s difficult to do anything in the day so once they’re in bed that’s my time 🙂 as long as they stay asleep haha. Yeah I decided to take the plunge and keep up with the times! Good luck with your blogging adventure! I’ll be following you!
